Wheels

In the realm of tyre services, the wheels of the car are pivotal. They’re not just circles of rubber and metal; they’re what keep your car moving safely and efficiently. Tyre services encompass a range of tasks aimed at maintaining, repairing, and optimising these crucial components of your vehicle.

Here are some key aspects of tyre services related to wheels in the context of auto care:

Wheel Alignment: Proper wheel alignment ensures that your wheels are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other. Misaligned wheels can lead to uneven tyre wear, steering problems, and reduced fuel efficiency. Tyre service shops use specialised equipment to adjust the angles of the wheels to manufacturer specifications.

Tyre Rotation: Tyre rotation involves moving the tyres from one position on the vehicle to another, typically from front to back and side to side. This helps ensure even tyre wear, extending the life of your tyres and improving overall vehicle performance.

Wheel Balancing: Wheel balancing is the process of equalising the weight of the combined tyre and wheel assembly so that it spins smoothly at high speeds. Unbalanced wheels can cause vibrations, uneven tyre wear, and stress on suspension components.

Tyre Mounting and Installation: When you need to replace tyres, tyre service shops mount new tyres onto your wheels and install them onto your vehicle. This process requires specialised equipment to ensure a proper seal and alignment.

Tyre Repair: If you encounter a puncture or damage to your tyre, tyre service shops can often repair it rather than replacing the entire tyre. Common repairs include patching small punctures and fixing leaks.

Wheel Inspection: Tyre service technicians also inspect wheels for damage, cracks, or signs of wear that could compromise their integrity or safety. This includes checking for bent rims, corrosion, or other issues that may affect performance.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS): Many modern vehicles are equipped with TPMS, which monitors tyre pressure and alerts drivers to significant changes. Tyre service shops can diagnose and repair TPMS issues to ensure accurate tyre pressure readings.

The recommended tire pressure can usually be found on a sticker inside the driver's side door jamb or in the owner's manual. It's important to check tire pressure regularly, as underinflated tires can decrease fuel efficiency and compromise safety.

All-season tires are designed to provide adequate performance in a variety of conditions, including light snow. Winter tires, on the other hand, are specifically engineered to offer superior traction in snow, ice, and cold temperatures.

Ideally, all four tires should be replaced at the same time to maintain consistent performance and handling. However, if only one tire is damaged or worn and the others are relatively new, it may be acceptable to replace just the one tire, as long as it matches the remaining tires in size and type.
